Frequently Asked Questions
How do I help to sew masks?
We provide mask-making material kit on pick up points all over Sf. Kit includes precut cotton fabric, polypropylene layer, and elastic. All you have to do is sew. We provide you video tutorial/instruction and answer any questions you might have. After it's sewn, we come to pick up masks from you and donate it to hospitals, homeless shelters, and nursing homes. We are planning to donate masks to the delivery personnel and restaurant workers in the near future.
What size should I cut my fabric to? Do you have a pattern?
Fabrics will be pre-cut. Mask kit comes with all the materials needed for sewing. We have our own pattern. If you would like to use your own material then we have patterns listed on our website. Please follow the necessary guidelines. Note: We do not donate masks without non woven fabric layering to hospitals as water resistance quality is needed for the safety of our frontline workers.
How many layers should my mask have?
Masks should have three layers – 2 outer layers of lightweight tightly woven cotton and an inner filter layer of nonwoven material.
Do I need to wash my masks before dropping them off or will you do it?
We will do it for you. Please write your name, and the number of masks on each ziplock bag provided. Each kit should make 25 masks.
Do I have to iron my masks when they come out of the dryer?
No, you do not. If you want to iron them, be sure to iron on the cotton side, NOT the nonwoven side!
Where can I take my finished masks?
We will pick it up from you. (In future we are planning to add drop-off locations for finished masks.)
I submitted my mask request form. How long does it usually take to get fulfilled?
We prioritize healthcare workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also planning to distribute masks to homeless shelters, delivery personnel, and restaurant workers. Therefore, depending on your request, it may take several days to fulfill your request. We do our best to fulfill both large and small requests, but currently, the demand is much higher than our mask-making output!
How do you distribute masks?
We have centralized hubs for mask drop-off and pickup. When we have a batch ready for a request, we contact the healthcare professional to coordinate the pickup of the masks.
